Finished Night Sky Painting: Wonder

I grew up in rural Canada, and I spent many nights camping in beautiful places.  This is one of my new paintings from this year, and it’s become one of my favorites because it takes me back to that feeling of sleeping under the stars.  Here’s the full finished painting:

I’ve always loved starry night themes, but my early attempts would turn out way too dark overall, since I was using too much black and making the sky too uniform. I had a breakthrough when I tried making the skies a mix of mostly light and medium blues, and varying the colors and sizes of the stars to give the scene more depth.  I’ll be posting a tutorial on this with step-by-step pictures soon.
